A profile that was set up two years ago and hasn't had a new photo or post since then is a weaker signal than an actively managed one. Competitors who are posting, uploading photos, and accumulating reviews regularly will outrank a static profile over time — even if your underlying business is stronger.
The other issue is the maintenance reality. Most business owners don't post to their GBP regularly, don't upload photos strategically, and don't respond to reviews consistently. Ongoing management handles that layer without you having to think about it.
